What does it do?
Sclerotherapy causes unwanted veins on the face or legs to shrink and gradually fade from view.
How does it work?
Sclerotherapy is the injection of a special solution into the veins. This irritates the blood vessels so that they swell and stick together and interrupt the regular blood flow. As a result the veins shrink and fade over the following weeks.
In order to make sure the treatment has the maximum affect you must avoid standing for long periods. You will also be asked to walk for 30 minutes immediately after the session and to walk for at least an hour every day for the following two weeks to improve blood circulation in the deep veins.
Are there any side effects?
You are required to wear special surgical compression pantyhose immediately after treatment and then continuously, day and night, for the next 48 hours to reduce bruising, swelling and any complications. After that the pantyhose are worn during the day only for two to three weeks.

Many people, both men and women, suffer from unwanted veins but the cause is not really known. Hereditary factors, HRT, birth control pills, pregnancy, obesity and even standing still for long periods have all been investigated as the cause.
If the veins are close to the surface of the skin then sclerotherapy or laser treatments can be used remove the veins.
Sclerotherapy consists of a micro injection technique into the unwanted leg and face veins. The special solution irritates the vessels, causing adhesion of the lining and preventing regular blood flow. Over the following weeks the vessels shrink and gradually fade from view.
Making the effort gets the results
If you choose sclerotherapy you will probably require more than one treatment and the after-care is very important. No standing around for long periods! You’ll also be required to wear special compression pantyhose and walk every day to encourage the blood flow through other healthy vessels around the treated area.
Treated veins can sometimes reappear but, in the majority of cases, it is simply a new vein appearing near the treated area. Most clients will need more than one treatment and this is usually performed one or two months later.
