Injectable dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid and collagen, are used to replace volume in the skin, giving instantaneous natural enhancement of wrinkles, folds and facial contours.
The fillers are substances naturally found in the skin, and restore a youthful appearance and resilience to skin by simply adding to the natural supply. Areas around the mouth such as the nasolabial folds, marionette lines and vertical lip lines are treated with dermal fillers. Dermal fillers can also be used to give volume and definition to lips.
Dermal fillers are administered through a few injections after using a topical cream or local anaesthetic injection to help numb the area being treated. Treatments usually last for at least 6 months and normal activities can generally be resumed immediately following facial injections.
Usually the side effects of these wrinkle treatments are temporary and localised to the area of injection. The different types of cosmetic injection have different side effects, however in general possible side effects include swelling, pain, burning, bruising or redness at the injection site.
